When you get a new power supply do they come with instructions on how to install it and where to connect wires?

I've upgraded RAM, GPUs, and CPUs but i've never changed a power supply before. When you get a new power supply do they come with instructions on how to install it and where to connect wires?
Good quality power supplies usually come with a booklet of some type to assist you in installation. Sometimes it's only a couple of sheets folded, more like a flyer.

More information can usually be found in the manual for the motherboard. If you don't have that, you can download the manual for the motherboard from the manufacturer's web site.

If you are replacing an existing power supply, you can easily create your own manual. Just use a digital camera to shoot each connection on the current power supply right before you disconnect it...or just jot down notes on a pad of paper that you can refer to when you are putting the new one back in.

Installing a power supply is hard to mess up though. Check all these connections, and you should be OK:

1) 20 or 24-pin power connection to the motherboard

2) 4 or 8-pin power connection to the motherboard

3) power to each of your disk drives (hard drives, optical drives)

4) If you have a dedicated video card, it PROBABLY requires at least one power connection, possibly two

5) Some cases have cooling fans that run directly off of the power supply.

6) If your system is old enough to have a floppy drive, that needs a power connection

That's about it. It's hard to mess up.When you get a new power supply do they come with instructions on how to install it and where to connect wires?
Unlikely. I don't recall anything like that in any power supply I've purchased, but I wouldn't exclude the possibility. Also, I tend to just open the box and use the PSU without reading the documentation anyway, so there's always a chance I just ignored said instructions, but to the best of my recollection I haven't see any directions like that.

However, there are probably online tutorials to help you and it's not terribly difficult to install a PSU. Most of the connectors are idiot proof anyway. When you get a new power supply do they come with instructions on how to install it and where to connect wires?
There is usually a very small, barely readable, pamphlet that comes with SOME of them. You have to have your motherboard manual and they are assuming that you have experience knowing what you are doing.

My recommendation is to open your current computer up and make sure you mark EACH plug as to where it goes. Compare plugs to plugs and take note of the COLOR of the wires. This will give you some help if you have nothing else, like a motherboard manual.
