start from scratch my guess your motherboard will most likely be %26quot;socket A%26quot; and will not not support dual core

therefore to change mobo would also mean change memory

it would also be useful to change psu as old one will be ready to pack up anyway and new comps need 450watt or better especially with new graphics cards

memory would be 1Gb or better, buy as dual channel kit

if you stay with AMD get socket am2 mobo and processor

dont know about intel not used them for years now but they normally as good or better than amd but always more expensiveLooking to upgrade my pc want to know is it possible to use dual core proccessors with amd athlon 2200 motherb
If you are going from a single core to a dual core processor, you will have to change the motherboard. This includes also changing the memory and possibly the video card. Keep power consumption in mind as you upgrade. You may need to upgrade your power supply if it is less than 300Watts.

No this is mother board specific. You would need to match the mother board to the processor. You may be able to go up a revision or two in amd but not switch to intel.Looking to upgrade my pc want to know is it possible to use dual core proccessors with amd athlon 2200 motherb
It depends. You should check the motherboard manufactures web site for details. Look very carefully under the support tab and email the manufacture if you don't understand their web site.

Example:

A Gigabyte motherboard that has a single core Socket 775 Pentium D is capable of handling a Dual Core but it has to be a Pentium D Duo Core. This can be done with no BIOS flash or driver upgrade for processor affinity.

A ASUS motherboard single core Socket 478B Pentium D will not accept a Dual Core. Different hardware make on the processor connection.

A Biostar Single Processor Pentium D Socket 775 can accept a Dual Core but needs an upgrade of the BIOS to function correctly.

I worked all three example within the last 2 weeks.Looking to upgrade my pc want to know is it possible to use dual core proccessors with amd athlon 2200 motherb
might be better off have a tech rebuilt it. gonna cost. but they will do it right.
