Can i simply replace my existing power supply unit (PC) with another that has higher wattage?

i understand how to install and remove components - its the change in wattage etc that is of concern as i have never done this before.

the requirement for this comes from a graphics card upgrade that now repeatedly tells me that it is not recieving enough power to enable it to work properly!

is there anything else that i should be aware of?

many thanksCan i simply replace my existing power supply unit (PC) with another that has higher wattage?
Yes, you can. Fit and forget. 4 screws. You don't need to worry about anything else. The change of wattage means it is capable of delivering more power *as required*. It doesn't mean it will be pumping more electricity into everything...Can i simply replace my existing power supply unit (PC) with another that has higher wattage?
You should be perfectly fine to upgrade the PSU as this will help to put the extra power where you need it. Just make sure that there is enough power for your graphics card then you will be ok. Go ahead and fit it.Can i simply replace my existing power supply unit (PC) with another that has higher wattage?
It's one of the easier things to do.

Just make sure all the hard drives, CD drives, fans (especially the CPU fan) have their power plugged in.

One more thing. Does your graphics board have a power slot? You may want to open up your case and see if you just need to plug a four prong power cable into your vid card. Can i simply replace my existing power supply unit (PC) with another that has higher wattage?
it would not be a good idea to fit a more powerful unit before checking that your machine can take it. or you could fry the comp.

check with the comp makers web site for support and see what they think. try some-one like pc world for advice and or a pc repair shop. let them think you would need them to do the job and once you have the advice you can choose to fit the new gear or not yourself. Can i simply replace my existing power supply unit (PC) with another that has higher wattage?

Yes you can, unless it is a Dell or an eMachines, as they use proprietary power supplies. In which case there are 3rd party vendors that do make higher wattage power supplies for their computers. What make and model do you have?
