How antique is this PC ?

i live in india and i assembled this PC in Feb 2007

pentium D820 2.8 GHz

512 MB ddr1

asus mobo with 865G intel chipset .( with intel extreme graphics 2 )

i know it is backward but i did not know any better.... then i do now . i have studied up extensively on configurations .

if i want to play quake 3 is this ok if i make RAM total 1 GB that is add 512 more ? the mobo seller told me then that integrated graphics is better . now if i want to change it i have to ( for a new graphics card ) change power supply too because the D820 is 90nm design and consumes a lot of power .

please help i am devastated .. ois this enough to play Quake 3 ?How antique is this PC ?
Compared to game pc , your pc is a little antique. CPU's slow, not enough RAM and graphic memory. Don't upgrade it buy new one if you can afford. How antique is this PC ?
about 3 years oldHow antique is this PC ?
That computer should be more than adequate for quake 3. The hardware you described is a few years old, but Quake 3 is even older.

The only potential problem I can see is your graphics card (or lack thereof). You're going to be using your motherboard's onboard graphics? I'm somewhat suspicious of that.

On the other hand, Quake 3 is an old game; that mobo might be able to handle it.How antique is this PC ?
maybe you should find out the company of this computer and call to purchase new parts you can finance these parts to depending on the company and if you dont have all of the money at one time (and if your credit is good), or why dont you order one off of HSN.com they have a dual core processer,14.1 or 15.4 ultrabright widescreen gateway laptop on flex pay meaning you pay on it every month. How antique is this PC ?
Does this card have a agp slot?

If it does, then you could buy a new agp graphics card, some are still being made. Just make sure the voltage is correct.

If not, then no amount of ram will get you any decent performance for games. Quake 2, yes, quake 3, not so sure.

It is a fairly antique computer^_^ I like it^___^

It's not so antique as you say and it's a very capable machine for office tasks.

I would definitely add at least more 512MB of RAM and a decent graphics card (ATI or Nvidia based). Integrated graphics aren't better, perhaps more stable for office tasks but definitely not for games. How antique is this PC ?
If you are using a built-in graphics card, it steals memory from the main memory.

You should go for an external GPU, like an nVidia or ATI card with a minimum of 128 MB on board.

I recommend 1GB ram and a 256MB video card. Upgrade the PS to 400W or better. That mobo seller is full of it.How antique is this PC ?
Your on board graphics will be your problem, be sure you have the latest Intel graphics update for that mobo.

Ultimately, you would be better off with an upgraded graphics card like Nvidia 5950 series and above.

If not try tweaking your graphic settings such as anthroscopic filtering and such, start turning things down or off and look for improvements. How antique is this PC ?
The answers you got so far are LAME.

Here's what you have now,

Pentium 2.8 GHz - (NOT BAD, NOT GREAT)

512 DDR1, (NO-NO, get 1Gig DDR2(at least cuz you're a gamer! 2 Gig is better, the more the merrier, you can always use them later for upgrades anyway.)

If your graphics card will allow 1024x768 resolution at 70 refresh rate, it is OK.

The best way to see if your comp will run Quake 3 is to check the game box itself and check the minimum requirements, it is clearly marked on all game boxes at the vendor's store.

The %26quot;goofball%26quot; that told you that integrated graphics is better is a liar or just plain dumb, (you can tell him I said so), because integrated means %26quot;shared%26quot; with the MOBO and CPU.

A dedicated graphics card takes a big load off the CPU and most have graphics memory that is not taken up by the onboard RAM. Tell the %26quot;goofball%26quot; to get a job at the local junk yard selling used computers.

The best thing for you now is get a mid size tower case with power supply included (any late model is fine and cheap).

Upgrade your RAM to 2Gig DDR2 and play Quake 3, but read the minimum requirements first to be sure, (I think you're OK).
