How do you remove and replace a power supply piece from a tower and put in another tower?

My E-Machines power supply is fried but the one in my Dell is good. I want to change out the power supply pieces and need help in doing this myself.

Does anyone know how to do it? Any websites? How do you remove and replace a power supply piece from a tower and put in another tower?
Wont work.

Dell makes proprietary power supplies as does E-Machines. Chances are the power supply is not the right voltage first of all. I believe e-machines are lower voltage. Even if the same, the connector that plugs into the m-board will be different. How do you remove and replace a power supply piece from a tower and put in another tower?
just open up each tower, and observe the connections between the power supply and the components. take a picture if you have to. then replace the power supply and make sure to connect it the same way as the one you took out.

it's not difficult by any means. How do you remove and replace a power supply piece from a tower and put in another tower?

This site is pretty useful: http://www.buildyourown.org.uk/

Make sure the connector blocks are the same, old PSU's have 20 pins but new ones have 24 pins or 20 + 4 pins (so that they will fit the old type motherboards).

If you can find the name an model of your motherboard (try BelArc adviser) then you can look up the installation manual on the internet which will tell you exactly where the connectors go. Or take a photo before you take out the old PSU so that you can easily remember where the connectors went.

The connectors on all modern PSUs and motherboards are keyed so that they will only fit the right way round so it's quite simple. Just be careful not to drop the PSU on the motherboard! It's a big heavy item that can do a lot of damage so remove any cards or cables that are in the way.
