External hard drive power adapter failure?

i've got an external hard drive (i think it's a maxtor) and the power adapter has failed on it, it was all working ok on it last night but i went to use it today and there's no life, i changed the fuse but nothing. there's no light on the adapter still.

the model is flypower SPP34 - 12.0/5.0 - 2000 i've been looking on the internet with no joy. does anyone know where i can get this adaptor in the uk? or i've heard that you can take the hdd out and put it in a new enclosure that has a power supply, how easy would this be to do?

any advice i'd be grateful for as i don't want to lose the photo's stored on there.External hard drive power adapter failure?
I'd try to find a universal type of power converter. You need to match the plug on the enclosure(watch polarity),the voltage and current that the HDD enclosure requires. If push comes to shove, you can always pull the drive from the enclosure and install it in a desktop computer as a second drive! Good luck! ;-)=External hard drive power adapter failure?
Any adapter that can give you 5volt + 12volt at 2amp will do the job although you need the right connector on the end. Bearing in mind how cheap drives are these days, it's probably best just to replace the whole thing. You can take out the old drive and temporarily connect it up inside your PC as a second drive.External hard drive power adapter failure?
No idea how you were searching the net but there are plenty of those power supplies out there:

Upgrading motherboard and cpu on my alienware laptop?

i was thinking about upgrading my laptop components in my alienware. i currently have the alienware motherboard that came stock and i wanted to upgrade my ML-34 1.8 cpu to something more powerful but my current motherboard can only support up to a ML-44 2.4 singlecore processor. if i bought a new motherboard/ cpu what suggestions would you guys have. i need something sli capable and prefeably around 350 or so dollars max for both. also im unfamiliar with how laptops actually work so would my new motherboard/processor require a differnt power supply or any other changes? thanks for the help!Upgrading motherboard and cpu on my alienware laptop?
Upgrading the motherboard and CPU on a laptop costs as much as the laptop.

Laptops are not as modifiable as Desktops due to their compact size.

How to crack the CMOS password?

I Have a desktop with 945 chipset board, P4 2.8Ghz, 256Ram .My system automatically switches on as soon as i switch the main power supply . i heard that changing the CMOS settings gives a solution to this problem. But as i on the system and hit the DEL to enter CMOS SETTINGS i am requested for a password which i dont know. The manufacturer has locked it with the password. Is there any solution to my problem.......How to crack the CMOS password?
Dear Kartik

Don't Do this if you Don't know what are you Doing

Steps To Clear the CMOS

Read Mother Board Carefully and See The CMOS/BIOS Jumper

if unable to find read the Manual carefully

if No Mother Board Manual

Then Download From Manufacture Site

There will be 3 pins

Which Have setting (By Default) - Don't ulter CMOS settings

Middle Pin is Common one Set to the alternet way

Notice you are in Admin ZONE. Read Manual Carefully if you don't know

Just Start the system and In 60 Sec Switch Off

Basic Thing is supply a pulse

Set the Jumpers at previous place

Your CMOS Setting are At Default Now

Second Method

Remove The CMOS Battery

And Short the + and -ve terminal that Connect to the Battery

Third Mathod

For Smarter Guys

For Those Guys Who Don't know the Basics or Does not Have time.

There is a Utility available known as cmos.exe

Simply Run this and The Work is done.

You Don't need to open the system

Clear the CMOS settings...there is a jumper (usually by the battery) that you switch to the other 2 pins for a few seconds, then back again. You can also remove the battery for a little bit then it will clear too.How to crack the CMOS password?
clear the cmos jumper on moby or

leave the battery out to drain overnite

then try itHow to crack the CMOS password?
there are two ways to clear CMOS password. first option is to remove the battery and put on after 2 minutes. second option is to short the jumper. How to crack the CMOS password?
U can serch in the net for the manufactures Default password. they Ususally keeps a default password for this. Or else u can see the manual given by them. How to crack the CMOS password?
If you use the jumper option - turn the computer off first.

(sorry if you already know this, but I have met people who did'nt)How to crack the CMOS password?
u can clear the CMOs password by removing the battery on motherboard and fix it after 5 min......How to crack the CMOS password?
Google for a master password for your bios. That is the easiest fix. Next easiest is to find the jumper on the motherboard to reset the CMOS completely (probably called BIOS reset or something like that). You can remove the battery, but it usually takes 24-48 hours for the CMOS to reset that way. While it is technically possible to simply extract the Dallas chip from your motherboard to reset the BIOS, I severely discourage this method. How to crack the CMOS password?
If you figure out the bios manufacture you can use the defult passwords which ou can find below. You can find your BIOS by checking the chip or i think you can find it on the set up screen. How to crack the CMOS password?
Remove battery from your board for few minutes or short jumper.

Whats the most effective way to get Dell Studio XPS with i7 920 to run with tri channel memory?

So I bought a Sudio XPS with the i7 processor, but it turns out that I might be running in Dual channel instead of tri channel? It came with four sticks of 4Gb ram. Should I buy 3 2gb sticks and use 3 of the 1gb sticks? I wouldnt mind doing this, but I read that you will be limited to the slowest rams (1066 for the 1gb sticks) so even if I get good 2gb sticks they would be hamperd by the 1gb sticks. Would that mean I would have to get 6 2gb sticks (which is pretty costly!) to run true Tri channel ram at 1333 mhz?

Also this computer is pretty loud how do I get it to run a little quieter. I plan on chaning the power supply, should I consider changing the fan? If so which one should I get for my system?

Thanks!Whats the most effective way to get Dell Studio XPS with i7 920 to run with tri channel memory?
I dont really know the answer to first part, but I have a Studio MT and the fan was bit noisy and i needed to update the PSU and when i did it was much quiet. I got 500W PSU from PC Power and Cooling, I really trust them and their pruducts

What power inverter would be ideal for a battery back up?

Hello,

I have been considering this idea for a while but I have had it on the back burner for too long. I've seen a few videos online of people putting a battery inverter and a car battery together to make a strong, long lasting battery backup. This idea really excites me, I don't love the cost of commercially made battery backups, and I am often disappointed on how they often like to create such heavy tier cost, 400 watts for 100 dollars, 800 watts for 200 dollars and so on.

I have some expensive electronic equipment that would greatly benefit from clean, uninterpretable power. A computer, monitor, stereo equipment, projector (the projector is the key portion here as it would be 'damaged' by shutting down without a chance to go through it's power down sequence) and so on. I feel confident that I don't draw over 10 amps at 120v. I am pretty sure that a 1500 watt setup would be more than enough.

I really like the idea of being certain that the inverter is giving whatever is plugged into it 'clean' power, sine wave or power that isn't fluctuating in voltage. I've seen back up power supplies speak of a feature they call AVR. Is that a vital idea? I imagine that the power comes straight from the battery, being certain that it is always clean, but I could be wrong.

I was also thinking of which would be better, two smaller car batteries or one larger RV battery. I saw a video of a guy speaking about how it would create less heat if you had a 24 volt (two battery) setup because the inverter wouldn't have to change the voltage so much.

Thanks! What power inverter would be ideal for a battery back up?
Be warned that very few inverters produce a true sine wave. Some give a near square wave, some sawtooth. If the one you are looking at does not say it gives a pure sine output IT DOESN'T.

Industrial motors for inverter duty are so specified, because the harmonics can fry motors designed for relatively clean utility power.

I would guess that AVR is Automatic Voltage Regulation, which would seem to me to be so basic a requirement that bragging about it pure ad copy.

Once you get a pure sine output inverter, it will be less efficient; more heat.

24V input might be better, but check out manufacturer's datasheets. Then consider that very probably vastly more 12V units are made and mass production lowers prices; that 24 VDC input unit may be far more expensive.

Also, car batteries are made and sold in far greater quantity and may therefore be cheaper per amp-hour.

More smaller batteries will also be easier to carry and set up than one huge one.

I am sure that wikipedia has at least one article on inverters, which would probably help you.

www.northerntool.com carries them and generally has good prices and quality.

www.herbach.com is a surplus outfit that might have them, cheap.

Converting 12V DC to 5V DC?

I have an XM radio cigarette lighter power converter. It changes the 12V DC power in a car to 5V DC 2000mA to run the stereo. I want to hard wire the stereo power supply into the ignition switch so that the radio turns on and off with the car. How do I convert the 12V car power to 5VDC 2000mA without the use of the cigarette lighter plug?

Power Surge through Computer when switched on??? Harmful to PC ... Help Please?

K so recently I changed or upgraded 2 items in my desktop PC. one was the motherboard and the other was the power supply.. both of them are second hand or used..

I checked both of them in the shop so there they showed no problem.

Now the problem is that now that i have setup both of them in my pc i get a kind of power surge when i switch it on..

dont know how to better explain this but when i turn the switch on (not the computer power button but on switch from the main power supply socket) the pc turns on for 1 second.. then turns of by itself..

after that i can tun it on normally via the power button on the pc..

what is this caused by.. it could harm my pc in case of fluctuation..

wow... put the power supply in first and THEN the mobo, you should never put more then one thing in at a time unless they're dependant on each other (e.g. a DDR3 mobo with DDR 3 ram).

i had this when i burn't my graphics card to shite, (cord stopped the fan from spinning ;_;). It's a scary experience i know but it's a hardware issue i'm sure of it. if you have another PSU laying around then you can try putting the mobo in first which would be the better option otherwise use the old mobo (if you have one laying around) and install the new PSU.

It's not unusual with some motherboards for the front panel power indicator light to come on when the power supply is first switched on. Although it's a false indication that would make it appear that the computer is on, it's usually harmless and won't be repeated unless you switch the power supply off and on again.Power Surge through Computer when switched on??? Get a power strip...APC is the defacto standard. You might want to check the outlet with a plugin tester. It resembles a male plug and it has LEDs on it which, according to which ones light up,will tell you if you outlet is wired correctly. You can also get a cheap multimeter from Radio Shack to check the voltage.Good Luck.

Yes, Yes, Yes you can safely burn jet fuel in any DIESEL engine!

It has the same make-up as diesel, but alot cleaner... It also burns within the same temp. range as diesel. (kerosene, jet fuel, and heating oil can all be used)

no there is nothing you can do with it,,as far as what your wanting to do,,it is a high octane fuel,,and should only be used in what it was intended for,,i hope this helps. Can I put jet fuel in a diesel automobile? If not, how can I change it to put it into a diesel/gas automobile?
NEVER introduce straight jet fuel into a diesel. You'll very likely damage the fuel injection system, possibly the entire engine at worst. Jet fuel (similar to 1 diesel) lacks the lubricating properties of 2 diesel. It is possible to %26quot;blend%26quot; 1 %26amp; 2 diesel for a winter blend but to outright operate on jet fuel (very similar to 1 diesel) will void a diesel engine makers warranty.

Consider the name on the fuel enough to tell you what the use is for. Jet fuel for jets, diesel for diesel engines, gas for gas engines. It is bad enough working with the correct fuel for a given engine that is contaminated with water or trash. Neither 1 or 2 diesel, nor will kerosene work well in a gas engine.

The fuels are not outright interchangeable. To attempt to do so I believe to be an exercise in ignorance. Don't go there. I've built about 500 odd diesel engines and maybe 25-30 gas engines over the years, and I've seen a lot of stuff run through them for fuel that did not work. I worked for and on Detroit Diesel, worked on Cummings Diesel and Caterpiller Diesel in a truck dealership, and all of them in off-road, hi-way and marine applications. Can I put jet fuel in a diesel automobile? If not, how can I change it to put it into a diesel/gas automobile?
Diesels will burn anything that combusts. The question is what

will it do to the fuel system? And you will void your warranty

if you have one. There are different grades of jet fuel just

like gasoline. Some are better then others. But generally,

jet fuel does not contain the viscosity or lubricity to properly

maintain a diesel fuel system for long periods. I.E. No short

term harm, but some long term. More or less the same story

for the gas engine. But a lower risk. I have some more info

on this at work if this does not explain every question you may have. Write me at rmerrell@ford.com I can dig further. Can I put jet fuel in a diesel automobile? If not, how can I change it to put it into a diesel/gas automobile?
you can burn jet fuel in your diesel motor but not in a gas motor. jet fuel is nothing more than a high grade kerosene. i hauled fuel for many years and at the airport in Atlanta, GA they burn jp4 (jet fuel) in all diesel powered vehicles. the reason for this is to cut down on the smoke the diesel fuel makes. even th rental car buses burn jp4. it will burn cleaner but other than that you will not see any change. if it is true jet fuel it will have a de-icier in it to stop gelling. Can I put jet fuel in a diesel automobile? If not, how can I change it to put it into a diesel/gas automobile?
Yes, I ran jet fuel in one of my diesels and it ran good,, I wish I was in your shoes and had an endless supply of it !!!!

Help with reactance, power, and resonance?

A power supply can be modeled as a source of emf in series with both a resistance of 10 ohms and an inductive reactance of 5 ohms. To obtain the max power delivered to the load, the load should have a resistance of 10 ohms, an inductive reactance of zero and a capacitve reactance of 5 ohms.

    a) with this load is the circuit in resonance

    b) what fraction of the average power put out by the source emf is delivered to the load

    c) to increase the fraction of the power delived to the load, how could the load be changedHelp with reactance, power, and resonance?
    (a) Yes (X of l) = (X of c) = 5 ohms. The two reactances cancel each other allowing maximum current flow possible with the existing resistance.

    (b) 1/1, 100% Edit: Corrected to 1/2, 50%.

    (c) Any change in the load would result in a decrease in the power delivered to the load.

Edit: After reconsideration I stand corrected on part (b) by answerer SBJV. One half the power put out by the source emf is dissipated in the internal 10 ohm resistance of the power supply.Help with reactance, power, and resonance?
    a) dunno

    b) 1/2 of the power is sent to the load...remember the 10 ohms inside the power supply is still consuming power...the 10 ohms at the load receives the other half of the power.

c)nothing...unless you can remove the resistance and inductance of the source there's nothing else you can do..

How much power do i need?

After much debating and research, I've finally decided my full system, no questions. I even changed what I originally wanted. I have one piece left... the power supply.

I'm considering that I'd like to overclock the cpu, the gpu, and the ram, though not sure if any of that means I'll have to work on my motherboard too since I'm totally new to overlocking.

Given that, and the following specs....

    -------------------------------------

    Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 G0

    Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P

Video Card: EVGA Geforce GTX260 with Core 216

    HDD: Western Digital VelociRaptor 300GB

    Audio: Creative X-Fi Titanium

DVD Burner: SAMSUNG Black 22X with Lightscribe

    RAM: 2 kits Mushkin 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500)

    As well as...

    Keyboard: Lycosa

    Mouse: MX518

    OS: Windows 64 bit

    CPU heatsink/cooler: Thermaltake Spinq

I'm debating on a fan controller since my case will be VERY well cooled with two 120 mm fans in back, 3 120 mm in front, and the thermaltake. The only way it would be better cooled is if I went water which I'm not comfortable with just yet. The fan controller would let me easily control the noise, cool level, and (if I get the right one) keep track of the temp.

    -------------------------------------

... what power supply do you think I need and what would you suggest? I prefer modular to help keep everything clean and easy. How much power do i need?
Gaming set ups draw power mostly on +12V rail, thus, total wattage is not a very reliable way of basing your choice.

Q6600 draws up to 95W on +12V rail. Its VRM circuit could draw ~20 to 25W more. GTX 260 draws ~136W also on +12V rail.

You need a power supply with at least 30 amps on +12V rail or dual rails with 18 amps per rail. Many good 500-550W power supplies can meet that. But if you have future plans for expansion/upgrades, I suggest you get a 600-700W PSU by PC Power %26amp; Cooling, Corsair, Antec, Enermax, HEC, Coolermaster, FSP, etc. How much power do i need?

750 watts will be fine for over clocking. And If you are going to overclock you that far you need a better head sink. You computer will over heat with the stock heat sink when you overclock. But it looks good.

It depends what you're planning to use it for (primarily). Looking at your specs, you have enough for a solid gaming box. I would double that ram to 4gig though (at least). And 750watts is plenty for over-clocking. Wattage on the power supply is mostly related to how much more hardware you are planning to slam into your box. For example, if you want to get one of those Dual core video cards. But 750 is more than enough.

How do you change out the factory radio and head unit from a 2000 pontiac montana?

I am in posession of a panasonic cq-vd7005u radio and am trying to install it into my 2000 pontiac montana mini-van. The previous car that it was installed in was unfortunately totaled and now i would like to replace the broken, factory/stock, radio in the van. The headunit is smaller than the current radio so I know i need an adapter box, but it seems as if there are wires missing from the radio, namely a power cord. I dont know if i would need to buy a new set of these, upon looking up manuals online there did not seem to be a power cord in the starting kit. The radio requires a 12V power supply, but before that i need to not only disassemble but remove the current radio.

How do i take apart the factory dashboard of a 2000 montana?

How do i install a panasonic cq-vd7005u into the aforementioned car model and type?

Thank you for any and all responses! How do you change out the factory radio and head unit from a 2000 pontiac montana?
pull out the ashtray (there are some screws down there- two) after removing them that center panel should just pull off (i had one), then there will be three screws in the radio, remove them

to install the new radio you will need a dask kit (to make it fit) and a wiring harness (or you can hardwire it)

Go to Crutchfield.com. I have had great luck there with getting very detailed kits with drawings to clearly show me how to take apart my car without damaging it. They may have a kit for you as well. In the past while I could have save a dollar or three going somewhere else the time they saved me was well worth it. Once you buy you also have techs available for advice via phone etc. They helped me by pointing me to more specific info so I could do a nice custom wiring job on my G6.

How do I change my monitor display back to the way it used to be?

My computer tower's power supply recently stopped working, and I just got it back today with the old power supply replaced, but now my monitor displays everything differently.

Compared to its previous state, it looks as if everything has been slightly flattened and then elongated, as well as things being slightly bigger in general than they used to be. Basically, squares are now rectangles and my desktop has much less space for icons.

And the buttons on the side of my monitor, which bring up and navigate the monitor's menus, don't help.

Is there a way I can get my monitor to display things the way it did before my tower quit working?

I've already tried looking for a way by myself, but I don't know enough about this or what to or what not to touch...and I don't seem to have any books or guides for this kind of stuff. How do I change my monitor display back to the way it used to be?
this problem could very well be because your resolution is off. if you have windows vista then go to your control panel and make sure classic view is on(find this at the left panel of your screen). then search the icons a little until you find personalization. go in there and click display settings. where it says resolution, you can put it all the way up and it will make everything smaller or you can just mess around with it until you get it right. if you have a diff computer or something then just find display settings in control panel and it shouldn't be hard to find, also dont be to afraid to mess with the settings a little, most of the stuff is easy to set back to default. hope it helped :)

How to change from NVidia GeForce 5200 to GeForce 7300?

I am upgrading my pc to Windows XP. Which went fine. I have a Geforce 5200 in my pc now, which does not show up in add or remove programs. But does show up in device manager. When we run uninstall it starts and then states we have to restart in order for it to continue. But when you do that it seems to reload the drivers back in to manager devices. I want to upgrade to the Geforce 7300 but when putting it in it causes my pc to beep continually. I have 1 1/2G ram. And my power supply is 300w. I have a 400w power supply I can swap out.

In add or remove programs, choose Nvidia drivers, then only the DISPLAY driver to remove.

My PC keeps crashing and I get a blue screen message but it seems to be when it is hot - any iodeas?

It is around 5 years old with a Athlon 1800 processor. I get a blue screen with a bad pool caller message and at the bottom a great long technical message. I have changed the hard disc and also the power supply unit but it is better but still not right - the cpu tempeature is 55 degress which should be fine so has anyone any ideas how I can narrow down what the problem might be, remember it seems to be worse when it is warmer? My PC keeps crashing and I get a blue screen message but it seems to be when it is hot - any iodeas?
As your computer is getting hotter, the seating of a card or the memory might be not as good because everything is expanding.

Make sure everything on the motherboard is firmly seated.

Good luck.My PC keeps crashing and I get a blue screen message but it seems to be when it is hot - any iodeas?
yea its overheating make sure dust if free from the case so air can flow freelyMy PC keeps crashing and I get a blue screen message but it seems to be when it is hot - any iodeas?
At five years old it wouldn't be unheard of for it to be component failure. Could be the graphics card (this is what usually causes crashes for me) or the CPU, or even something as seemingly unlikely as the sound card.

What are you doing when it crashes? If you're playing games it points to the graphics or CPU playing up, if, like me, you're doing lots of things at once (watching a video, browsing several thousand web pages at once in separate tabs, and running bittorrent) then it could be the RAM giving up the ghost.

There's so many things it could be, but for now if its not causing too much bother just ignore it.

Also, the hot weather of summer doesn't help - try opening the case, and use an aerosol compressed air can to blow all the dust away from the internals. My PC keeps crashing and I get a blue screen message but it seems to be when it is hot - any iodeas?
I have learned that blue screen means that it is time to call the professionals.

May as well do it sooner rather than later.

    It will only get worse.

Best of luck!My PC keeps crashing and I get a blue screen message but it seems to be when it is hot - any iodeas?
i believe if you look at the temp in your pc health status it's in centigrade which if it is that's a bit too warm try opening the case and giving it a good cleaning with some canned air and then checking that all the fans are in fact working. you might want to upgrade your fan on the processor and add 1 or 2 to the case. plus make sure its in a well ventilated location not one of those desks with the closed compartment for the tower. i have one of those desks and i put my tower in the space where your legs go much more airflow there plus it keeps my feet warm in winter. My PC keeps crashing and I get a blue screen message but it seems to be when it is hot - any iodeas?
have you checked the fanMy PC keeps crashing and I get a blue screen message but it seems to be when it is hot - any iodeas?
Unplug it all, take off the covers and give the heat sink and all the fans a good clean, if you are not sure what to do find some one that does before it over heats too much and dies for ever.My PC keeps crashing and I get a blue screen message but it seems to be when it is hot - any iodeas?
this is a common problem rob,so dont get too over worried

the blue screen of death is probally due to a few reasons

1)the c.p.u is getting too hot, like the previous answer said, use compressed air in a can and blast the dust from the c.p.u fan, also invest i a rear chassis fan(around æ‹¢8),this will help with internal cooloing

2)the graphic card may be overheating, check the fan on the card, again blast it with air,and check to see the fan is functional,,check the card is correctly seated and inserted

3)maybe a new cpu fan would help, your socket is %26quot;socket A%26quot; so a appropriate cpu fan should be purchased, the 1U Akasa All Copper Active cooler for AMD Socket A,(http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductIn and the NorthQ 3390 Slim Line Media Center Cooler(http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductIn 2 good cpu coolers

also try leaving the case open(make sure you don have pets who can crawl inside) or even upgrade your case,a good choice is the Coolermaster RC-330 Elite Black Midi Tower Case w/o PSU (http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductIn a cheap case with plenty of ventelation potential, its got a side fan and a rear fan,and being madw by coolmaster you know its built by experts

the reason your p.c is getting hot is due to lack of ventelation so by increasing the ventelation hopefully we can stop the crashes

it may however be the c.p.u so try using a new socket A cpu, they are quite cheap now, considering their age,

good luck mate!My PC keeps crashing and I get a blue screen message but it seems to be when it is hot - any iodeas?
well the blue screen might be the blue screen of death

  • I want to make my old pc faster by changing my processor and mobo, How can I choose one thats right for my pc

I am currently running a 633 celeron, 256 memory, which is max. A 64mb video card. I already replaced the power supply with 350 or so watts so power isnt a problem. I've cut vents in my case and have an extra fan so cooling isnt an issue.

My question is how do i pick the right processor and mobo.

I want to get as fast as possible with my old e-machine.

I have also picked up a 80gb hd which i stil have to install.

Money is my biggest concern right now so less is best but I still long for great gaming, with new games. My system is basically a maxed out E-machine, But I believe with th right mods almost anything is possible. I have plenty of room for storage, and music and stuff but games play like crap. I need speed.I want to make my old pc faster by changing my processor and mobo, How can I choose one thats right for my pc
I only run a AMD 2800 with 1Gb Ram and a Gforce FX5200, and I have little or no problems with games like COD2 - BF2, any of the stuff coming out soon and I'm going to struggle but all that in an old case only cost me æ‹¢100 by shopping around.

The quality of the graphics is not amazing but it's fine for me and with 10Mb cable I enjoy myself online without spending wads of cashI want to make my old pc faster by changing my processor and mobo, How can I choose one thats right for my pc
A 633 celeron, 256 mem, and 64 video card? You could get away with playing games from eight to ten years ago with those configs. But such games as Oblivion and Gothic 3 demands, and I mean demands! higher-line pc guts! It's because the video graphics and loading and subsequent action will slow down your machine to a crawl without a higher mem video card and especially with having only 256 memory.

Check around for suggestions that can help you tweak you machine.I want to make my old pc faster by changing my processor and mobo, How can I choose one thats right for my pc

Don't waste money on your current museum piece.I want to make my old pc faster by changing my processor and mobo, How can I choose one thats right for my pc
To get more bang for your buck you, may just need to buy yourself a good packaged desktop (Dell Sony or HP). After the cost of the mainboard and chip, you then may need to replace the case, with means pulling out all the devices you may have. Then you may find that your %26quot;cdrom%26quot; is too slow and want DVD-Rom and a DVD-Burner, also you will need to purchase a diiferent type of memory than what your old system has. No matter if you build the system or bye the system as a package, you want to have either an AMD Athlon64 or Intel Core Solo, or better processor. You want to have at minimium 40-80GB @7200+ rpms harddrive, preferrably SATA. Memory you will need at least 1GB of DDR or DDR2 RAM. Video cards you will want either ATI Radeon or Nvidia FX, with 128MB or better. LCD Panels save on desktop space so you may want one of those, 17+ inches is good. Of course get your DVD-ROM and DVD-burner. And most important of all, buy the games for it!I want to make my old pc faster by changing my processor and mobo, How can I choose one thats right for my pc
I recommend the purchase of a new machine, you will need New RAM and video cards that are compatible with the new motherboard.

trust me upgrading an old machine is a waste of money. you can get a brand new Compaq, with warranty, customer support, monitor and all cheaper than buying parts for an old machine.

Smoke coming out of my computer?

GRAB A COFFIE FOR THIS ONE! lol

    Hi Every1,

about a week ago i was building a computer and i wasnt quite finished and i plugged it in, the fans drives and that were working, cool ( i know now to wait and not to plug it in intill youve finished,

my freind changed the volts of the power supply and turned it on(115v instead of 230v) and it blew the fuse on the PSU, didnt know how to change it, got a new PSU, arrived it yesterday put it in the computer case turned it on, i could smell something, looked it was smoke, turned it off as qwuik as i could, now the old PSU that blew was 300wats, the nwe is 400w,would that make a difference to the computer, the intel pentuim was not isstalled but thats the only thing that wasnt, i mean is that a main voltige point,

    PLZZ HELP,

    thanks

georgeSmoke coming out of my computer?
I dare say, amigo, that you've probably FRIED several components. However, you might have just fried the power supply if you are lucky, I mean like winning powerball lucky.

The use of the wrong power supply will fry the beJesus out of valuable components. Be glad the CPU wasn't inside, your lovely Intel Pentium, which will turn to putty with an overvoltage.

Also your little fuse might have been the WRONG voltage, which means it allowed TOO much voltage to exist before blowing and caused, I%26quot;d bet using my psychic powers and crystal ball, EXTENSIVE damage. What you've done is short circuited the computer by not having a complete flow of electricity and no grounding. God only knows what you've fried and is beyond repair and what is not damaged. Odds are the harddrive, the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drives, FANs whatever are OK.

What you have probably killed are memory circuits, sound cards and the like which operate on very LOW voltages. But a short circuit rather changes things. You should have hooked the electrical cord to your friends brain and turned it on and short circuited that. That way, useful and valuable items of technology wouldn't have been destroyed. hee hee

You are claiming to have used UNDER-voltage. Under-voltage will not blow a fuse EVER. Too little voltage a device will simply not work.

Maybe next time you build a computer, you'll make sure your %26quot;friend%26quot; is like out of state. For all you know, your friend accidentally put a booger in the circuitry or spilled his coffee in it.

Building a computer is easy if you follow the directions, but most people think they know better than the manufacturers of various components, which is of course FALSE.Smoke coming out of my computer?
First thing, dont ever plug the power to the computer until ALL the components are in. With the new power supply it should work fine. Also, never switchthe volt while the thing is turn on. Power supply are VERY VERY dangerous and voltage charged. Trust me...I should know :-(

LOL to the girl on top...ELECTROCUTEDSmoke coming out of my computer?
Well not to be offensive but if you can't spell do you really think you should be building computers(unless you don't speak English then please forgive me)? Anyways from what I read your friend put 115v instead of 230? If you live in the USA then it should be 115v if not then 230v. Also, check your motherboard theres a chance you fried it.Smoke coming out of my computer?
Once when i was checking memory in my new computer i left the module resting in the slot, instead of pushed in, and it set on fire. Luckily i put it out and the slot was melted but everything else (including the memory chip) worked fine. Lucky me!Smoke coming out of my computer?
It could have been the PSU smoking, or it could have been something inside, such as the motherboard. The change from 300W to 400W should not matter, but now I would be afraid that everything connected to your mobo is fried. It probably fried when the first one blew, and now the second one blew because the voltage just could not transfer through the motherboard.Smoke coming out of my computer?
I say, call the fire brigade and run!

Don't put water on it unless you want to get electrocuted!Smoke coming out of my computer?
If you set 110v on the supply and then connect to 230 the first thing that happens ids that the psu blows, often going unregulated. This puts dangerously high voltages onto the motherboard, the result of which is likely to be a blown motherboard, memory, cpu, drives and possibly fans. You friend owes you a new machine. Do NOT let him near anything electrical, he has no clue what he is doing. On other equipment this mistake could have been fatal (literally).

How can obama or Clinton Change the course that the U.S has taken?

How can a new democrat president change an already established agenda that is designed to maintain a countries survival as a super power? it seems to me that there are things that the U.S need to do( moral or immoral) just to survive as a nation on the planet. Like taking over countries to insure energy supply to the nation and many other survival moves which are thought to be shady. How can a man or a women president go against the preset survival mechanism with out being eliminated? How can obama or Clinton Change the course that the U.S has taken?
Since we only get to choose from %26quot;permitted%26quot; candidates, one could logically assume that none of the candidates WILL change the course we are on. There is nothing that either one of them can do or would do. Only make things worse. How can obama or Clinton Change the course that the U.S has taken?
when we take over other countries we get side licks from other countries. no pres can make the differecn they want but they can improve man have done it b4 so theres no question to whether a man or woman( but hopefully the man obama) can do it as well , but maybe in a way that gets more support rathr than hate and criticismHow can obama or Clinton Change the course that the U.S has taken?
For one thing the economy will get many more jobs with universal health care with Hillary Clinton. More research in medicines and vaccines will be done because of it also since the health care will lift the low income people into visiting the hospital. The No Child Left Behind will be gone with Clinton, that act believe it or not, makes it so teachers can only teach strictly standards not allowing outside the box teaching which would be very helpful to a lot of hands on students plus it will engage them and make school more enjoyable, so no more prison of a school. She will get us safely out of the war. Fund more programs that are in desperate needs, arts, nasa, and many more things are facing the same budget or even their budget is getting lowered. I feel as our population is growing our government should be giving these more money. How can obama or Clinton Change the course that the U.S has taken?
They are not trying to change anything. They are trying to further their own agenda. No more, no less. How can obama or Clinton Change the course that the U.S has taken?
They can't only make things worse for us all while trying to 'help' the small percentage of people. Why do they want to bring down people rather then let people rise? To garner more votes from the so called 'poor' with promises the rest of us have to pay for. Classic communism. Is this what you realy want?

Solor power can solve so many problem but..?

Solar power can supply most of the power required for all of the United States with tech. growing and pricing becoming more attractive, the reason we do not all have it or better why it is not pushed is.. How would the state and federal make any tax money on something we all own?

If we all used Solar power like Germany is starting to, we would save more power for our own uses and sell it back to the power company, even sell more back them they would need to make, making them unneeded (as they already are)

The only way the United States will switch to Solar power is if the Goverment can tax it like it does the oil, oil tax is the base of the many projects and pays those very high pay check in Washington.

If you agree, what can we do as a nation?

if you do not agree, tell me why.

We have to know how to make power a non-issue, reduce oil need which will lower the price.

The goverment knows this, but we don't we change things?Solor power can solve so many problem but..?
The ultimate problem with ground based solar (along with wind which is even more of a pipe dream) for baseload power is that it isn't available all the time and would therefore have to be stored for when the sun don't shine (unless you're about to build transmission lines all over the planet which doesn't seem like the best use of money there is) and large scale storage of power is not something we have managed to solve yet.

Solar on a power grid (along with wind) is usually used as a source when it is there with fossil fuels to provide back up power when the renewables aren't working making them almost as bad as the fossil fuels that are needed to back them up (to the point at which solar can basically become 60% as bad as coal and wind 80% as bad).

Reliability is a key requirement for our electricity supply and the politically correct power sources simply can't provide it at present (and we need to solve the global warming problem now, not next century when we've actually got large scale energy storage worked out).

Switching electricity to solar also won't have much of an affect on oil prices because not much oil is actually used for power generation, pretty much all of it is used in cars (and given the limitations of electric cars that is likely to be that way for a while).

Of course if you could put the solar panels in space and then beam the power down you'll find the problems solar has disappear (but then we get to the new problem of there not being the infrastructure needed to actually build solar power plants in space).

One could also try to recreate the sun on Earth which would be a good way to do things aside from the fact that we haven't got it to actually produce more power than we put in (though ITER probably will reach breakeven).

It sure looks like nuclear fission is all there is right now and it isn't actually anywhere near as bad as it is commonly made out to be.Solor power can solve so many problem but..?
i don't think it's the government that taxes oil. i do believe it is the oil companies. also, there are better sources of energy than that. not to mention solar energy can only be harvested for 12-15 hours of the day in most areas. what about the next 12 hours?Solor power can solve so many problem but..?
The reason solar doesn't catch on is that it the capital cost is $6/watt installed. So, for an average family home that needs 1kW average, that's a cost of $6,000 just for the PV panels...add on the cost of a grid tie inverter and the price goes up to about $9,000, which is no small investment.

The other big thing to consider is that the availabilty of Silicon or Gallium Arsenide is limited ,and unless we want to pay $5,000 for desktop computers, we probably shouldn't try all jumping into the photovoltaic boat all at once.

That's why I think commerical scale windpower is what we should primarily be investing in for renewable energy. It is very competitive in terms of economics, and there is no availabilty issues WRT the raw materials used in their construction.

Most likely, but you are beating a dead horse here. Your system is fairly outdated and is not suited for running XP.

In fact, your memory (196MB) is below the minumum system requirements for running XP and so is the speed of your processor.

I even doubt that the PCI slots in your machine are even capable of supporting this card. Probably needs a PCI 2.0 slot.I installed a new graphics and its fan works but i receive no signalDo i have to buy a larger powersupply?

ok, sorry for critisizing this but, You Are Crazy, Its kind of hard to run all that hardware and OS on such a wimpy processor.

On the bright side, its cool your trying.

Is this a media center you built.I installed a new graphics and its fan works but i receive no signalDo i have to buy a larger powersupply?
Your biggest problem is the processor on the Graphics card is only 33MHz less than the processor on your main board. Yes, the video graphics card has a processor on it.

The best thing for you to do if you need to have the graphics card for some reason is to update your mainboard and processor on the main board. Not to mention the fact that neither your amount of processor speed nor your amount of RAM match the minimum system requirements for WinXP.

Although, just for laughs here. I remember when Bill Gates said no one would ever need more than 640K of RAM, but what did he know, right?I installed a new graphics and its fan works but i receive no signalDo i have to buy a larger powersupply?
Update your BIOS to the latest. Turn off on-board Video, through BIOS, Mother Board %26quot;JUMPER%26quot;, or OS. as in disable that vidcrd through the control panel.

If you are getting video through the on-board but not the PCI, then do the above. This is on-board video OK to MONITOR, while PCI vidcard is installed. If no vid from either Use safemode change IRQ settings for the installed card. Now the latter is not easy, will need experience, do not attempt if not sure. would love to AID in that one, deep field. e-mail jayspc@hot.rr.com for deeper insight.

Welll, you might need to try to install the drivers again. Did you get a signal before on you old card. First, uninstall the drivers for the old card then when you install the new card then you add the new drivers. It's not your power supply, but it has been common, but since you just installed a new card always go backwards then forward. Hope this helps!

  • How do I fix my computer from turning black whenever i change resolution, switch user, etc?

First I'll state the problem and ask the question at the end. Whenever I change resolution, switch user, log off, screen saver turns on, or have the monitor turn off after one hour, my screen will turn black and stay that way. Moving the mouse and pressing buttons won't work. My graphics card is an Evga Geforce gtx 260 (takes minimum of a 500 watt supply and I have a Rosewill 600 watt supply) upgraded from an Evga geforce 8800 gts (that card worked just fine). I have the latest driver from Nvidia and even tried the driver with the disc that it came with. The only game I have tried to run thus far is Mirror's Edge. Whenever the menu tries to load, the game crashes. It worked fine with the other card. My question is, what is the problem, and if one knows what the problem is, how would I go about fixing it?

What do i need to do to run my garden electrics (pond Pumps & Garden Lighting) from a solar panel?

I run 2 pond pumps and 4 sets of garden lighting through my electricity supply and would like to change this so it runs from solar power panels on top of my garage roof.

Can anyone give me advice on what size panels I need, how many and how i actually install this.

Please help as I would love to cut down my carbon footprint but want to keep my garden looking pretty. What do i need to do to run my garden electrics (pond Pumps %26amp; Garden Lighting) from a solar panel?
find the total wattage of the pumps, and purchase a solarpanel larger than needed. why would you want to run garden lights during the day? to run at night, would require some deep cycle batteries, and a power converter for 12vdc to 120 voltac. What do i need to do to run my garden electrics (pond Pumps %26amp; Garden Lighting) from a solar panel?

I have a question about voltage and current?

Is this true : If I have an electric oven that has a power rating of 100 W, and I use a 200 V power supply, I will have a current of 0.5 A?

Is this true : If I have the same electric oven but instead I connect it to a 400 V power supply, I will have a current of 0.25 A?

Now, if the electric heater has a voltage rating, how does this change my hypothesis to what the current will be?I have a question about voltage and current?
Is this true : If I have an electric oven that has a power rating of 100 W, and I use a 200 V power supply, I will have a current of 0.5 A?

Yes if the oven was designed to operate on 200V

Is this true : If I have the same electric oven but instead I connect it to a 400 V power supply, I will have a current of 0.25 A?

Yes if the oven was designed to operate on 400V but no if it is the same 200V oven

Now, if the electric heater has a voltage rating, how does this change my hypothesis to what the current will be?

the current is a function of the voltage divided by the resistance = Amperes

as the voltage is increased (for a given resistance value) the current will increase and the power will also increase

AnitaI have a question about voltage and current?
Power carried by any electrical equipment is always constant which also can be calculated by I^2 * R, where I is the current value and R is the resistance of the said electrical equipment.

Therefore considering your first hypothesis, Power is (0.5)^2 * R, while in the 2nd case its (0.25)^2 * R which is far less hotter than the first case. There is a possiblity of coil getting burnt in first case and hence you will not be able to test the second case. If your second case is valid still the first case will result in burning the coil, all of this is on the basis that the resistance R of the coil is constant R which is true in practical scenario.

hence either way in both of your statements only 2nd one can be true and tested.

Hope this is explaining the logic behind your hypothesis.

A bridge rectifier to convert 12Vac to dc but the output voltage will be 16.98V so how do i change it to 12v?

The brigde rectifier is a '2KBP005 2A 50V' RS componant. And i need it to power a 20w 12vdc halagon lamp from a 12Vac supply, the supply has to be dc as i have other item which are running on dc from this curcuit from time to time.

I think the rectifier voltage output is 1.41 x the input voltage = 16.98V.

Also do these items heat up during use and would they need any additional cooling for continued use.A bridge rectifier to convert 12Vac to dc but the output voltage will be 16.98V so how do i change it to 12v?
You can run that bulb straight off the 12VAC. No problem. Don't waste your time with the rectifier unless you are planning to run electronics or charge a battery.A bridge rectifier to convert 12Vac to dc but the output voltage will be 16.98V so how do i change it to 12v?
I would guess that when you put a load on it, it will drop pretty close to 12VA bridge rectifier to convert 12Vac to dc but the output voltage will be 16.98V so how do i change it to 12v?
the light should handle it, just make sure your 12 v supply is big enough, they should'nt heat up to much, most 12v items run on 13.8v or so, the rating of ur rectifier is %26quot;2a- 50v%26quot;, make sure the load does exceed that or u will get some extra heat.A bridge rectifier to convert 12Vac to dc but the output voltage will be 16.98V so how do i change it to 12v?
Using 20 Watts you may want to have the rectifier on a heat sink. Also, if you want to run other items off it, your reserve based on a 2 amp rectifier isn't all that great. Higher capacity will give you greater life expectancy.

The voltage should drop once you put a load on it.

Since fully charged batteries are at 13.2 Volts and charging systems come in higher than that, the exact voltage isn't all that critical, especially with lamps.A bridge rectifier to convert 12Vac to dc but the output voltage will be 16.98V so how do i change it to 12v?
Hey, I see you took my advice.

First, to have the voltage back at 12 you'll need a voltage regulator. But, in order to push 20 watts you'll need a load of 7.2 ohms @ 1.66666 amps. The rectifier should be bigger too (handle more amps).

The power supply you have MUST be rated at 2 amps or higher for this to work. The higher the better.

    I found a 12Volt 2Amp regulator (Part L78S12CV) at http://www.mouser.com and it's only $0.46.

This is where I get ALL my components. You should be able to find everything you need there.

You will need a heat sink on the regulator to keep it cool, for it will get very hot.

E-mail me, sparky3489@yahoo.com and I can draw up a schematic for you.

I just need to know if the memory is replaced will it change any settings or saved data or can i add another memory card beside my existing one?How to install memory and is there a specific type or maker you should use?
Well there is 2 different kinds of memory the 512 MB you are talking about is RAM memory which is memory that will make your computer faster. It stands for random access memory. it just remembers stuff of watch your are doing while the computer is on. If you wanted get more of that it is easy to do just find out what kind of ram stick you have because it is best to make sure that they are the same. Then open up your case and drop it in next to the other one or 2 in your computer. The type of memory that stores all of your files and settings on your computer is the hard drive. If your were looking for more room to put stuff this is the thing you want to add another one too. to do this is more difficult. you can buy any internal hard drive they come in all different sizes and then look in your computer and attach the same way your other one is hooked up.How to install memory and is there a specific type or maker you should use?
No, it will not save data, when u Shut Down power your ram will go to 0 State. When powered up the hard drive will load the ram memory with data.

How do I use my British Wii in Canada?

I have brought my UK-bought Wii to Canada in the hope that I will be able to use it. I am happy to play British games so the two issues I face are:

    1. Power supply

If I just buy a Canadian AC adaptor will it work or is it more complicated than this?

    2. TV

I have a Canadian TV. Will the Wii work with it or does it need some kind of adaptor to change the format of the picture?

Any help is much appreciated. How do I use my British Wii in Canada?
ah....for that, you will need a little something called Freeloader.

Basicly, it lets you use region-coded games on other region consoles. For example, you could play US Wii games on a JP Wii and so on.

Here's a link i got for you to buy Freeloader for European Wiis: http://uk.codejunkies.com/Products/Wii-F

I'm not really sure how it works but it comes with instructions. Also, it may not work depending on what Wii firmware you have. If you have 3.3 or higher, Freeloader wont work on your Wii. If you dont know what firmware you have, you can check which one you have here: http://uk.codejunkies.com/support/articl

Also, nothing will happen if you buy a canadian adaptor. And a Canadian TV is no problem. The Wii should still work.

Hope I helped! How do I use my British Wii in Canada?
the wii may not work cause wii is made, no wii with work from country to country its a regional thing. Sorry \%26gt;^%26lt;/

Can all internal changes made to a xbox 360 get your gamertag or console banned?

At the moment I have an xbox 360 elite I bought from a third party that's suffering from error E74.

Ap-on taking off the face plate I learned that my elite had a problem previous to the one im having now and had been opened and fixed once before. Basically my warranty with microsoft is gone. Ive heard getting a 360 fixed that hasn't been opened that's not in warranty costs about 100$ and getting a 360 fixed that has been opened is around 200$. Anyway after getting the 360 fixed whether by microsoft, a third party, or trying to fix it myself Im looking to mod it. I wanted to add a window, some aftermarket fans, LEDs, and maybe a dvd drive where you can see the games spinning while in the console, and lastly maybe some x-clamps that are supposed to fix the red ring of death problem. I do not want to add a mod chip or anything like that to be able to play illegal games. While researching some of these changes I learned alot and heard alot of different things. For example I heard that most issues with the xbox 360 come from overheating. I learned that the stock exhaust fans run at 5v. Im looking to get the Talismoon Whisper Max fans that have a nitro switch that allows them to run at 12v(and also have LEDs you can manually change to different colors or turn off). I looked up how people install some these mods and saw that people draw power from places like the dvd drive power supply.

Bottom line I heard things like microsoft can detect these changes due to the power of your console.

Is it possible that microsoft can detect these changes, possibly getting my gamertag banned or my console banned from access to xbox live?

P.S. a friend of mine had installed a modchip in his xbox 360 allowing him to play illegal games. Microsoft detected it(I think because he didnt have the correct firmware),and they banned his xbox 360 from xbox live access. They didnt mess with his gamertag,he later recovered it on another console before buying a new one. Is it possible for the same thing to happen to me?

Looking for help espcially if you have or know someone with a modded 360 or even knows how to mod one.Can all internal changes made to a xbox 360 get your gamertag or console banned?
No it's not possible for microsoft to detect these changes due to the fact that they cannot simply scan your console for it.

Can i change my computer fan speed?

i bought a new case fan for my computer, i now have 2. one is plugged right into the board, and the new one is plugged into the power supply. the one into the pwr slpy is loud, is there a way i can turn the speed down? if so please give DETAILED directions on how to do it....thank youCan i change my computer fan speed?
You can plug your fans into a drive-bay-mounted fan controller: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis

Basically you can use the dials on the fan controller to control the speeds of the various fans.

Anyway, next time you build a computer, you might want to choose quiet-running parts. I also HATE loud computers, and I built mine to be as quiet as possible. Here's my config:

    - E8400 Core 2 Duo CPU

    - Zalman CNPS7000 quiet heatsink with a ZM-CS1 mounting bracket (sold separately)

    - Intel DP35DP motherboard, fanless heatsink on northbridge

    - Sapphire ATI Radeon HD3870 with the quiet ducted cooler

    - Samsung Spinpoint 250GB HDD with the quiet Nidec motor

    - Seasonic S12-360W PSU. Bigger PSUs generate more extra waste heat, so I made sure to choose one with the appropriate amount of power for my system.

My system is virtually SILENT.Can i change my computer fan speed?
It depends on the fan and its interface with your computer. If it has a way to input into the computer the speed/heat inside the case it usually has a control program that lets you change it. Otherwise, look at the fan itself, a lot of the decent ones have a switch that lets you control high/low/off.Can i change my computer fan speed?

as the author of the previous answer wrote, you have to do it from the Setup of the motherboard, unless you have a special software to do this.

But I'd like to add that it is not a good idea in the first place, unless you're doing it on the short run, to be able to run a demanding application.

On the long run, overclocking a CPU will eventually cut its lifespan to half.

That much tweaking would call for a review of your own cooling system because if it were not up to par would cause damage. Power supply usually need no change.

No BIOS but on desktop you need to find tweaking program, I only knew nTune for nForces boards, else you do have to go to BIOS.

Not much in terms of advantages, some processing benefits like an encoding is becoming faster but for games this is the wrong place to concentrate.

A 12.5 uF capacitor is connected to a power supply that keeps a constant potential difference of 26.0 V across the plates. A piece of material having a dielectric constant of 3.95 is placed between the plates, completely filling the space between them.

A)How much energy is stored in the capacitor before the dielectric is inserted?

    Part B

How much energy is stored in the capacitor after the dielectric is inserted?

    Part C -

By how much did the energy change during the insertion? How much energy is stored in the capacitor before the dielectric is inserted?
    ______________________________

    Capacity = C = 12.5 uF 1.25*10^ - 5 F

    Potential difference = V = 26.0 V across the plates.

Energy stored in capacitor before dielectric is placed = Ui = (1/2)CV^2

    Ui = 0.5*1.25*10^ -5*26*26

    Part A

Energy stored in capacitor before dielectric is placed =Ui =4.225*10^-3 J

    ________________________

As potential is kept constant, insertion of dielectric increases capacity

Energy stored in capacitor after dielectric is placed =Uf =(diectric constant)CV^2 = (diectric constant)Ui= 3.95*4.225*10^-3

    Part B

Energy stored in capacitor after dielectric is placed =Uf =1.668875*10^-2 J

    __________________________________

    Part C

Energy increases by 12.46375 *10^-3 J during the insertion.

____________________________________How much energy is stored in the capacitor before the dielectric is inserted?
1.00059 = dielectric constant of air at 1 atm

The energy storage in a capacitor is given by 1/2*C*V^2

So just multiply it out (.5)*(.0000125Farads)*(26)^2 = .004225 joules.

Inserting the 3.95 dielctric constant material will increase the capacitance by the ratio 3.95/1.00059 = 3.9477

Since this is linear relationship just multiply (.004225)*3.9477= .0167 joules

So the stored energy increased from .004225 joules to .0167 joules and you can express that as you see fit, either as a percentage or as additional joules of energy.

  • How can I get my hard drive to work in another computer?

I have an emachine computer and the power supply went out. I have another emachine computer that I have for parts. They are not the exact same model but the power supply is. I changed all of my computer parts over to the computer I had for parts since when I put power supply in nothing happened. I switched over my hard drive and now it says that there is a problem with the hard drive setting. The computer has t6he corect hard drive listed but windows will not load. I am sure this is the most confusing question ever but I hope someone out there has dealt with this before. Any tips on what I could do would be great. Thanks! How can I get my hard drive to work in another computer?
Check the drive jumpers. They must be in Master position on only one device per ide cable (the flat ribbon). So if your drive is slave and your cd-rom is slave too then it won't work.

there is a lot of ways

first : you can buy a box that make your hard drive external so you can copy your vip files

2 no hard drive work on two computer coz the mother bored model and other hardware is stored on the hard drive

if you connect the hard drive to another computer the windows well crash so you have to formatHow can I get my hard drive to work in another computer?
you probably wont be able to use it as a primary Harddrive BUT you can connect it as a slave drive and get all your information off. just connect it to a machine that already has a windows installation on it on another drive and install yours from the emachine in there... make sure its set to %26quot;slave%26quot; in the jumpers. Then you can access your information no problem and you don't have to worry about things like mobo settings on the emachine drive etc.

    Is my computer dead?

OK so i have this computer (e machines T2460). like 3 days ago it was working fine, and now today when i tried to turn it on it wouldn't turn on(nothing would turn on, No fan, Light, or Sound or anything, like if it was off) So I thought it might be the power supply so i changed it. When i had finish installing it and tried to turn it on it still wouldn't turn on. So i know its not the power supply. So then i check if all the cables were connected properly and they were i even dusted out the little dust it had and used contact cleaner spray on the inputs of the mother board. Then again i tried to turn it on but it still wouldn't turn on. So then again i tried to turn it on with the side cover opened to see if at least a light turned on in the mother board but nothing.

I know its not a virus or that something is not install correctly.

Could it be my motherboard that it got fried? How can i fix it?

Or could it be something else?

But how could that be? I had it connected to a power surge. Is my computer dead?
Yes. It's dead.Is my computer dead?
lol...yap it's DEADIs my computer dead?
it sounds like it has kicked the bucket.

Time for a new oneIs my computer dead?
motherboard is fried. Is my computer dead?
get a new motherboardIs my computer dead?
may be due to Earth currentIs my computer dead?
Is the On/Off button even working? Is my computer dead?
Assuming you connect the power supply correctly, it's a dead motherboard. eMachines are like disposable computers, you get three years max.Is my computer dead?
Have you tried a different outlet? Is my computer dead?
Have you checked the power leads and the plug socket yet? If you dont know the tech way, use a kettle lead that you know works in a socket you know works, if then it still doesn't work, yeh it's probably died.Is my computer dead?
Did you verify that the surge protector still gives power (sorry if this question sounds insulting)Is my computer dead?
Ont the surge protector check that the circuit breaker is not tripped its usuallly a little black or red button that you push to resetIs my computer dead?
Before you think of replacing the motherboard ,1. call a technician to check the power jumper settings on the motherboard . 2. Check the power on/off button whether the contact is ok . 3. What is the rating of the power supply unit you are using ? Is it enough to power the board ?4. Hope you dont have electrical wiring problem .5.Try another power cable . good luckIs my computer dead?
sounds like your mb went dead...looks like you will have to get another mb from e machines hopefully its still under warranty....Is my computer dead?
Check to make sure the processor is connected properly, and the ram or memory. If that is all good and in place the yes the motherboard is shot.
