Is my Motherboard dead?

I have an Intel Celeron 2.8Ghz, 512Mb, 80Gb capacity eMachines PC that has been playing devilish tricks on me fof GodKnows how long. It started by starting up on its own and then finally couldn't boot when I press on the power button. Changing power supply and eliminating all the other components couldn't solve the problem. Wipping the power switch button seemed to have solved the problem for it started functioning then one day stopped again. Using screw driver on the jumper settings seemed to work till it finally stopped. The mother board was changed for a new mercury motherboard. One week later, it also stopped working.

What can be the problem? I've been told it is the power supply and that both motherboards are dead. I don't want to buy another motherboard to have a reoccurence of the same old problem. Please Help!Is my Motherboard dead?
Sounds like the bad capacitors have struck again. These are all symptoms. Pop open the case and look at the capacitors around the CPU. They are about an inch tall and are usually purple and gold. They may have ballooned out and have a crusty or rusty secretion coming out, If this is the case you will need a new main board. This will help.

your first problem is that you have an Emachine... those things are paperweights with cords.

I would recommend getting a new machine alltogether. Is my Motherboard dead?
Change the power supply as well as the Motherboard, Power supply is friying your Mother boards. Is my Motherboard dead?
First, buy a power supply tester, and verify you do have a good ps.

I'd guess you have a bad switch on the case or dead mobo's.Is my Motherboard dead?
Well if you already check the ram, hard drive, or any other components, then yeah its dead. Have you try bought a new power supply?

My as well buy a whole new one or custom a new one.Is my Motherboard dead?
We need to determine first the current symptoms that you have, if it is no power or simply no post. No power means that all LED lights (power LED, motherboard LED if available, etc) are all OFF. It that is the case then you have a no power issue.

It is no post, if you have power lights ON but you get just a black screen and you can't hear any activity coming from the Hard drive nor see any boot prompts, as soon as you press the power button. Check the fans inside the system, are they running??

If it is a no power issue, troubleshot first the power supply, swap a known good power supply into the system and see if it powers-up. Also, to test your current power supply, test it on another system as well. If your current power supply works on a different system, then there's nothing wrong with it.

If it is no post, you need to strip your system to basic parts, meaning, remove expansion cards (sound card, network card, modem etc), unplug the hard drive, cd/dvd rom drives and disconnect all peripherals at the back of your system. so you should only have monitor, keyboard, mouse, motherboard, memory and video card. Power up the system and check if it sends signals on your screen such as looking for a hard drive. If it still doesn't work, check the memory, see if it is plugged in properly into the slots, try switching slots, then if you have 2 rams try testing each ram individually and see if it posts. If it does post with one ram, therefore, the other is defective.

Also, see if there are any burnt marks inside the system, possibly caused by heat or lightning.

Hope you can provide your findings, will take it from there. Have a great day :)
