I just bought my HP Slimline s3620f, it has a 128 MB graphic card, I want to know how can I upgrade it, I want a better graphic card, but it's difficult to find it, because it uses a special mini video card, I called HP and they say they don't sell it, they told me to go to nvidia.com and I can't find it, I also want to know if I have to change the power supply too, and where can I find it??? Please someone who knows this stuff, I really need help, I was thinking about selling it on eBay, to buy a normal desktop, because it's difficult to find this video cards, and parts for this computer. Thank you!!!!!!HELP!!!! PLEASE, I NEED HELP UPGRADING MY VIDEO CARD ON MY HP SLIMLINE S3620F!!!?
It's got a 160W power supply. Yikes.

And it's one of those weird, long version flex ATX12V power supplies,

On the other hand, a 9600GT card should run quite well, with a E5200 Wolfdale (Core 2 Duo @ 2.5 GHz).
I don't know anybody who has done this upgrade, so you would have to try it, then report back, but I've only come across a couple power supplies that look like they would be good for upgrading one of the HP Slimlines.

Yeah, you need a slim-line PCI-e card. The best you'll get is a 9600GT, and Newegg carries it. Also, I think you only have a 180 watt power supply, so upgrade that for sure. Buy the best Seasonic you can if it's mATX, and if ATX look at things like OCZ StealthXStream, Earthwatts and PCP%26amp;C- all usually heavily discounted at Newegg. You may need extra cooling, too- if the card gets hot, dremel a cut out in the rear of the case and add a fan! Seriously.

I have 400 watt PSU in my cpu..?
i have 2 HDD, keyboard, mouse, speakers, 2 sticks ram and crt monitor (i think that doesnt count) its 1gb++ ram...
i dont have graphic card...so if i want to add graphic card, do i need to change the power supply too??
im thinking about 256mb of dedicated graphic card..or maybe more...
and if all of you people know, is there any software that can tell us how much WATT our pc uses?? i know some hardware that can, but im looking for software...
thank you very much...I have 400 watt PSU in my cpu..?
You have enough watts in your PSU, so u don't need to change it. I would get at least a 512 mb graphic card with GDDR3 memory. And to answer your other question, no I don't know any program that calculates your wattage, sorry. Hope i helped.I have 400 watt PSU in my cpu..?
Here you go try this link, someone gave it to me and now i'll pass on the love.

This is how I found the PSU for my pc build I will be making soon.
It will give you a variation of about a 100w or so just to be on the safe side.I have 400 watt PSU in my cpu..?
You might sneak by with that. I have.
Different CPUs processor MODELS can draw from 36W to 130W.
With such a range, there is no way to give a proper answer.

How do I know which graphics card works on my computer to play the latest games?
I am looking for a card that will be safe to play without having to change my power supply. I don't mind if the graphics aren't the ultimate, i just want the latest games to work, i.e. bioshock, company of heroes, games like such. Im willing to pay up to $150.
these are my computer specs: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/docum
thanks in advance :)How do I know which graphics card works on my computer to play the latest games?
sorry, but HP computers have a reputation for using tiny power supplies. (I should know since my computer is an HP, though upgraded.) Your power supply is most likely 300-350 watts, which is not adequate.
Sorry, but if you can just set your budget up $50 so you can pay $200, you can get a 400-500 watt power supply and a $150 graphics card.
Buy a $50 ATX power supply, making sure you have more than 22 amps on the 12 volt rail(s) ((It will say on the sticker on the side)
Then buy a $150 graphics card like this one:

to question asker:
Just open up your case (most computers today have a panel designed to open on the side, try to figure out a way to slide it open, unscrew it if you have to) your power supply stats should be in a sticker pasted on the power supply.

How can I fix a zapped external hard disk?
I recently plugged a 110v external hard disk from Japan into a 220v socket here in Argentina. There was a zap, sparks flew, and of course the hard disk wouldn't turn on any more. However, I get the feeling that if I change the power supply circuitry, I might be able to still use the hard disk, which can be unplugged from the rest of the circuitry inside the hard disk case. 驴Do you think I'll be able to fix and use the hard disk or at least recuperate the data inside it? I'd appreciate any experiences or background information that may help me get this problem fixed. Thanks in advance. How can I fix a zapped external hard disk?
Wow, the best thing I can tell you is to get the correct voltage settings and try it again. The problem with computers is that they are magnetically vulnerable. A surge like that typically (fries, erases, deletes, shorts circuits) renders the component useless, because the circuits are screwed. All you can do is hook it up to another computer, using the correct voltage settings and hope for the best.
There are professionals that may be able to retrieve data from a crippled hard drive. This is a very expensive process, so only consider if the dat is that darn important.
Good luck.

Old parts new computer?
I broke my computer when trying to add ram (would like to try fix it, but that's another question). I purchased a new e machine for $299 and im not sure if this is just a cheep product, but the cables and ide controls on the on the mother board are like nothing i have ever seen before.
They are smaller, and the power ports are different, They are not standard ribon cables that i am used to. it has been quite some time since i have purchased a new pc, (2005) but i did not think happed.
Is this just something e machinces has done so that i can not expand. i wanted to use my hard drive and DVD burner, but they cant match.
I could change my power supply but how do i connect them to my mother board. Old parts new computer?
It sounds like your motherboard only supports SATA drives. If so, you'll have to add an IDE controller to use your old hard drive.

Can You Help? I Need Some Expert Advice.?
I'm Planning some upgrades to this decktop.
The upgrades are: 1. I want to install a video capture card %26amp; internal modem card for a broadband connection, But as there is only 3 internal slots %26amp; 1 is obstructed by the already installed graphics card. Q. Is it possible to change the position of the graphics card [ to another slot ]without causing major headaches?
And if so do all the drivers need to be reinstalled or will the computer simply act the same as when you change a devices USB port?
2. I want to add an extra internal hard drive [ as the external hd is filling fast %26amp; the internal is already near full ] as a slave drive. Q. Will I need to change my power supply %26amp; if so how do you work out what size is needed, also is there any special drivers needed to run the additional hard drive as a slave drive, am I restricted to the size of the additional hard drive by the size of the existing hard drive?
Hopefully there is someone out there who can answer these questions or at least point me in the direction of someone who can.
Or a website with the answers will do.Can You Help? I Need Some Expert Advice.?
Well, the best idea is to get an EXTERNAL broadband modem from your service provider (like COMCAST or VERIZON, for example). That way, you don't need to switch things around internally.
To answer the question a different way...your motherboard must be SLI or Crossfire in order to have two or more X16 PCIe ports. Most of the time, a single X16 motherboard will also have a second X4 PCIe port. So if your motherboard is not SLI or Crossfire enabed, you probaby have a X4 slot which you could switch your graphics card to, but the fact is, it will work at 1/4 of it's current speed! This is why I suggested the first suggestion - get an external modem. All you have to do then is to use your motherboards NIC connector (like gigabit, for example), run a CAT4 NIC connector from the motherboard NIC to the external modem. It's that simple. Then, you don't need to mess with your PCIe slot(s) or PCI slots.
Secondly, hard disks take up very little wattage...somewhere between 5 - 10 watts per hard disk. So I seriouslly doubt you will need a new power supply just for that alone. You may need one if you have a very small psu and your video capture card pulls some heavy duty watts. I don't know what watts video capture cards pull. So check that out.
You will not need to %26quot;slave%26quot; or %26quot;master%26quot; the hard disk if you have SATA ports on the motherboard. SATA is single channel and does not have dual master/slave like IDE does.
There are no special drivers needed for IDE drives, but you will need your SATA drivers if you intend to use SATA drives. If you already have a SATA drive installed, that means you already have a SATA driver. If your computer is one of those whith both an IDE port(s) and SATA ports, then leave your IDE settings as they are, and buy a SATA drive and use an avaiable SATA port. You can either download the SATA driver for your motherboard from the manufacturer of the motherboard or you can download a SATA driver from the hard disk manufacturer. Check it out before you buy. You will need to confirm if you have a SATA port(s), and where to get the drivers for SATA for your motherboard or computer. If IDE, then you will not need any special drivers, they are already part of Windows.
You are restricted to size of hard disk, in XP, BEFORE SP1, you could not access more than 133 Gigs. AFTER SP1, it became 3 Teribytes. I don't know what W2k, ME or 98 are limited to but I do remember running 120 Gig disks under W2K. I think under ME and 98, you are limited to 33 Gigs Max.Can You Help? I Need Some Expert Advice.?
Answer 1) You motherboard only has 1 PCI express x 16 slot so the graphics card must remain where it is.
Answer 2) Adding an additional hard drive is easy. If your computer has an extra power plug for another hard drive then no new power supply will be required. There are things called jumpers in the back of some hard drives and the instructions provided with the new hard drive will give you directions on how to set it for slave. No new drivers need be installed, but hard drives do come with a cd for easy formatting and setup of the new drive. They are very user friendly if you just follow the steps provided. You can also opt to buy a new hard drive and a
I am shocked that there are newer motherboards out there that have ethernet ports, but lack onboard modems. For broadband you don't need an internal modem though. If you're getting DSL then you will be provided a modem by the service provider. If you're getting cable internet you can purchase a cable modem from Newegg.com, Best Buy, Walmart, and possibly even the service provider. The reason you won't need an internal modem is because the phone line connects to your external broadband modem and that modem is connected to your computer via either ethernet cable or usb cable. If you still want a dialup modem you can get an external usb modem from Newegg.com leaving your extra PCI slot free for your video capture card. There are also video capture devices that connect through usb. Below are a few links of product examples. I have not used these products so am not endorsing them. Hope you find this helpful. Can You Help? I Need Some Expert Advice.?
Sure, you can probably move the graphics card. I've done it several times. You may need new drivers but I doubt it. The hard drive should be fine. You should have all of your old space and the additional space of the new hard drive. Just make sure the pins in the back are set correctly for slave.

My Celeron Processor crahed due to thermal overheating ,Should I be worried?
I adjusted the clock speed to a higher number in the BIOS?
Then The PC did not start ,then i changed the power supply it started
but when i was playing a A game(FIFA08) it crashed stating

So should I just just change the clock speed and the Processor will be fine
or are there some unrecoverable damages to it that I should Purchase a new one

Celeron processors are not great, but it's not the quality that is poor, simply the specifications. If it's overheating while being overclocked, and it damaged your old PSU, then you should definitely turn it back to stock clock rates. It sounds like the heatsink/fan that's on there is not made to handle an overclock of the CPU.
It's not likely that you caused permanent damage to your processor, just turn it back down to its stock speeds and it should be fine.My Celeron Processor crahed due to thermal overheating ,Should I be worried?
you got 1 GB of RAM and a celeron and you OCed it? well since the computer shut itself down your probably fine but you need to set the BIOS back or its going to fry the CPU, and your not going to find drivers for your cracked mac OS without a lot of searching so good luck
