I have a Dell Pc and the motherboard has died how easy to change it?

I have a Dell E521 running a AMD Athlon 64 X2 Processor 5000 (2.60Ghz, 512K) the mother board seems to have died, I understand I need a new motherboard power supply and case because dell motherboards are smaller than normal, is it just a case of plugging everything in to the new motherboard and case?I have a Dell Pc and the motherboard has died how easy to change it?
I'm afraid it's not that easy.

Dell use motherboards with proprietary features/ connectors, and to make even worse your motherboard is a BTX type.

You will need a new case, you will need a new PSU, and new motherboard.

Even worse you need a new copy of Windows. On an OEM (Dell is an OEM) PC your Windows installation is tied your information contained in the BIOS on the motherboard (It's called SLIC). Part of the Microsoft EULA OEM license prohibits transfer of an OEM Windows to another PC/ motherboard. If you do, you will find it's no longer activated. You can't use the Product Key you find on the side of the case either. That too only works with a motherboard that has a OEM marker in the bios, retail purchased motherboards lack this.

So in the end it's probably easier to buy a new PC, or by a E521 motherboard off eBay. You could remove the hard disk and use it as a second in a replacement PC, that way you would still have access to all your data.

What's wrong with the motherboard? Does it have bad (leaking, bulging, exploded, leaning) capacitors? Normally if you have a friend with a soldering iron it will only cost around 拢2 for the replacement capacitors from Maplin, and then it should work again.

People have a lot of experience of Dell and bad capacitors, as a large percentage of the GX270 motherboards suffered from it. I have a GX150 motherboard that suffers from it too and randomly reboots because of it.I have a Dell Pc and the motherboard has died how easy to change it?
I'm assuming it's not under warranty? If so, I'd recommend that you buy what's called a bare bones kit. This is usually a case, power supply, motherboard, CPU and RAM. Then you transplant your drives. It's fairly easy, as long as you follow the instructions. They are mostly idiot-proof these days and it's difficult to plug things in the wrong way. You'll need to figure out what motherboard and CPU you want, and make sure the drives you have match the connectors. Go to newegg.com and take a look around - they have tons of parts at great prices.

You might also consider taking it to a store to have this done, or at least getting a quote. It's probably cheaper to just buy new parts and do it yourself.I have a Dell Pc and the motherboard has died how easy to change it?
If you mean it seems to have no more power, there's a watch battery somewhere on it. Replace it with a new one. If that doesn't work, you'll need to replace the motherboard. This is a difficult job. You need to set up an earthing kit. Then you need to undo all the wiring, the components, everything from the motherboard. Then you need to unscrew it from the case. Screw a new motherboard into the case. Then replace all the components then the wiring. You ought to get a specialist to do it.I have a Dell Pc and the motherboard has died how easy to change it?
ooo man - i can't stand changing out the motherboard - it's a pain in the butt. However, these days, it is something anyone can do...

There is only one real issue. If you are running Windows Vista, then you will need a new copy of Vista. In the update to their license, Microsoft has tied each copy of Vista to the motherboard. So when the motherboard goes bad, the License for Vista gets voided...

However, you have a Dell, and they might be able to help you out more. Give them a call, see what they can do for you

Not easy, especially for a girl. If you have a male friend, have him help you but he needs to know what he's doing!

You'll need to take apart all the cabling/remember screw locations/spacers might need to be installed under the board/clips on bays will have to be unhinged.

It's not so simple as %26quot;just changing out a board%26quot;, it's quite complex for the average user!I have a Dell Pc and the motherboard has died how easy to change it?
It's a doddle, you won't require the PSU, and I doubt you're need a new case - just get an ultra-small form factor board. Bear in mind, though, Windows will at the very least require new drivers. It may refuse to work at all until you run an in-place upgrade.

But why do you think the motherboard is blown?I have a Dell Pc and the motherboard has died how easy to change it?
Its not that easy call Dell and they could walk you through it. or you can send it in for repair. Its free if your PC is still under warranty.I have a Dell Pc and the motherboard has died how easy to change it?
