How can you prefer a mac over a pc?

PC's are customizable which means you can change parts (ie. motherobard, power supply, ram, hardrive, etc,) unlike a mac.

PC's have many more programs to choose from. ( although I agree that some of those choices are kind of shitty/ worthless/ viruses)

Besides the fact that PC's have viruses and macs don't PC's win at everything.

Don't say macs dont crash because they do.

and if you have a good virus protection then you dont even need to worry about viruses at all. in fact if you are smart when you download things you shouldn't ever get a virus.

What do you think is better and why?How can you prefer a mac over a pc?
I prefer Macs and can type for a long time telling you what I think Macs do better than Windows and what I think Windows does better than Macs. If you prefer Windows, get a PC, but don't try to use the list you give as an excuse or you will be lying to yourself.

PC's are more customizable? The Mac Mini is just a customizable as ultra-compact PCs. MacBooks and MacBook Pros are just as customizable as PC Notebooks. The MacBook Air is just as customizable as PC Netbooks. The iMac is just as customizable as a PC All-in-one. The Mac Pro is just as customizable as PC desktops.

It is true that PCs have more software to choice from, but for any task you want to do, there is software available for the Mac. There is no shortage of software for the Mac, just a lower number to chose from and a significantly lower percentage that is %26quot;shitty/ worthless/ viruses%26quot;, as you say.

Macs do crash, but less often and with less dire consequences. Because Macs are also less than perfect does not make PCs better. A major system crash on a Mac can be fixed in about an hour and a half by doing a FULL system reinstallation - without breaking existing software. A FULL system reinstallation for Windows will require reinstalling drivers and software.

%26quot;If you have good virus protection then you don't even need to worry about viruses at all%26quot;. Interesting argument, but a logical fallacy. An average of 2.4 new Windows viruses are discovered every day. This %26quot;good virus protection%26quot; software would have to be one that is updated the moment each new virus is discovered. Additionally, it would have to written to detect possible virus activity on your computer for code that does is not part of its virus definitions - AND be written to somehow thwart attempts by virus writers who code their new viruses to get around this feature. In other words, this %26quot;good virus protection%26quot; you talk about does not exist. How can you prefer a mac over a pc?
PC For the WinHow can you prefer a mac over a pc?
I believe there is concept called %26quot;choice%26quot;. I run Windows just because I prefer it -- others might run OSX but that's their business, not mine.

No need to get butthurt over it.How can you prefer a mac over a pc?
go for Mac!

mac's unique in everything, if you need pc os, then, mac's got bootcamp, other specifications are all good, no virus, stylish too, and the history!

i use the both, but i prefer mac.How can you prefer a mac over a pc?
who said that mac can't be customized? my brother build a mac, its something called hackintosh, it was doing pretty well really, in fact its something like a third of the mac price. and many times better than pc, i really like it %26lt;3How can you prefer a mac over a pc?
Over the years of both using mac and pcs, I would say I still prefer Steve Jobs over Bill Gates. You maybe right about the pc hardware parts being customizable but the mac was built to have the latest technology (which the pc might not even have yet). It's not actually true that macs dont get viruses. In fact, they do, but mostly trojans. Virus and Worm infliction is very rare in a mac.

Besides, if you want the best of both worlds, you can install a Windows OS in a mac through Bootcamp...works like a dual boot system..

take careHow can you prefer a mac over a pc?
On a mac, you will not need to install antivirus/anti-spyware/drivers there will be no registry errors or missing dlls. The updates are smooth and upgrades are easy, I just updated from 10.5 to 10.6 with out a problem. Try upgrading from vista to 7 without problems, or even the service packs. You can not even go from XP to 7 which is amazing. Not only that, alot of drivers, programs and hardware are not compatible with 7. Windows is not backward compatible, which makes no sense at all, at least I know my mac apps will work with an update.

The applications on mac do not require an installer to install it, its just one icon that can be moved easily. On windows, the installer installs files all over the system for every application, causing fragmentation of the hard drive and the possibility for crashes goes up. This also allows bloat ware and malware to be installed without the user knowing it.

The Mac FS is used in such a way that it does not need defraging, Windows you need to defrag every month. You wait for hours for windows to defrag, then you get problems with windows crashing or failing dring the defrag and you end up with data loss.

The %26quot;mac is unpopular there for not many viruses are written for it%26quot; argument is complete BS. With Mac OS 9 back when the mac market share was around 5% there were 500+ viruses for the OS. Today with Mac OS X and a mac market share of 10% you think there would be double the amount of viruses. There are in fact maybe 10 application specific (not OS) trojans for the modern mac.

My biggest problem with windows are all the little 3rd party drivers and programs that need to be downloaded to make windows work. Like adobe, java, image viewers, drivers, archiving tools, iso readers, video codecs, dvd rippers etc. Why does the system not come with these things out of the box? On mac out of the box, I can create, open and edit iso's, dmg's etc. I can open almost every image type from pdf to raw (No adobe needed). I dont have to screw with drivers or codecs.

And why does windows have to have a wizard for the simplest task? Like unzipping a file, it takes like 10 clicks to unarchive a file on windows. On mac, I double click the archive and out pops the folder with my files. How can you prefer a mac over a pc?
I've used a range of computers over the years; and come to prefer Apple.

Apples crash less frequently than Windows.

Housekeeping is easier - backup, install / uninstall, file management, etc. TimeMachine is very effective for backup and restore.

I've never not been able to do something on an Apple because the software wasn't available; I just needed to get an Apple version or equivalent. However, I'm not a big gamer.

Apples work straight out of the box, including linking to wifi and the web.

The only customisation I've ever needed to do has been to add more RAM, or fit a bigger drive. No problem, except on a Mac Mini. Now I get the right spec first time and don't even need to do these upgrades.

I have always had excellent customer service from Apple. Go in with a broken machine, come out with a fixed one. Been given advice on how to get the best from my software - meaning not having to purchase new stuff. In PC/Windows shops I've had a two-week turnaround on repairs - when I'm lucky.

Why do I prefer Mac - because, as Americans might say, I want to spend my time driving it, not with my head under the hood. How can you prefer a mac over a pc?
PC...

PC=Variety of specs, options, quality, prices, vendors, support

Mac=One vendor, limited options, still more expensive. Look below for more information..

Today, Macs use a subset of PC hardware. Why spend extra to get the same CPU chips, graphics cards and OS X isn't as secure as you think..

Don't believe the lies that Macs are better than PCs at graphics/animation.. Dreamworks Animation http://www.dreamworksanimation.com/ under studio click on Technology of Animation, an independent film maker I know uses PCs, a graphic artist I used to know uses PCs also.

A number of PCs can also run OS X (Mac OS) http://www.google.com/search?hl=en%26amp;q=os+ as well just that Apple makes it illegal in order to get Market share.. The reason why Mac can run native Windows is because it is using a subset of PC hardware,

If you decide to buy a Mac for running Windows, you will still have to get the same virus/spyware protection, and run into the same issues as a regular PC.

Now is a Mac worth buying for OS X?

I say: NO... for the following reasons...

SECURITY

Mac OS X was hacked in 2006 less than 30 minutes, and within 2 minutes in a contest in 2008, and within 10 seconds in 2009. In 2008, Linux and Vista were not hacked until another day when restrictions were lowered. Vista was next, and then Linux. In 2009 Windows 7 fell shortly after the Mac but Linux was unscathed.

Macs are standardized with Cameras, if your Mac gets hacked, the hacker can turn on your camera with more ease.

Please Note: All OS's have vulnerabilities.

QUALITY/PROBLEMS

Contrary to belief, Macs are not better quality. Apple also has been changing suppliers to try to %26quot;lower the price%26quot; and thus lowering quality. Even with the lower prices, Macs still cost more, they spend a higher percent of budget trying to make it look pretty, and marketing.

Sample of problems: Deleting your Data (Snow Leopard), Overheating Macbooks, OS X- not responding to keyboard, some units with 16bit screens, etc. Apple statistics are misleading since Mac users with problem machines are more likely to go out and buy a new computer than PC users. Apple is lowering prices which means you can expect lower quality than in the past. Apple had switched the manufacturers producing parts. OS X also has problems slowing down.

Repairs are more expensive than PCs since the IMac, Mac Mini are compact units, and Apple charges a premium for their services. Some repairs can be done by another repair service but the compact design of the computer causes problems.

With an IMac, if the problem is with the monitor, the whole computer would have to be brought in.

IMac and Mac mini lack expansion.

VIRUSES

Mac OS X has viruses (and significantly on the rise), a friend of mine has a virused Mac. As more users use Macs, more viruses will come out for it. Especially when users think %26quot;they are safe%26quot;.

ADVANTAGES WINDOWS :

Aprox 90% of the market is Windows and most PCs have windows already pre-installed.

1) Some websites require Internet Explorer, to run IE on Mac you really get ies4osx which is the Windows version of IE running really buggy and illegal if you don't have a legitimate copy of Windows.

2) Supports more devices (printers and other things you hook into the computer).

3) More business software/games

4) Want the dock on OS X (Mac)? google/yahoo rocketdock, objectdoc.

5) Used by businesses.

ADVANTAGES LINUX :

1) FREE (most versions are)

2) Install software by either 1) Synaptic Package Manager, 2) Add/Remove 3) Opening a .deb or .rpm file (depending on distribution)

2) Like the Mac OS X effects? go yahoo/google COMPIZ FUSION which can do any cool effect a Mac can do and many ore....

A similar equipped PC is much cheaper to purchase than Mac. Lets use Dell (but you can compare with another PC Brand if you like)

PLEASE NOTE: I compare Apple Mac's vs Dells best deal. If you really want an all-in one the Dell all-in-one has more ram, wireless keyboard and mouse and equivalent to $400 for free making the Imac still more expensive when you matching specs. Personally I don't think the All-in-Ones are a good choice, and consider them overpriced, lack expandability and repairs both more expensive and require the entire computer.

PS: Apple knows that they need to make Macintosh look different than PC so all Macs except the Mac Pro will not have a tower option. Apple's low end lacks expandability but it makes the Mac %26quot;look different%26quot;, if Mac had a tower for low-end, more people would realize the similarities between the two.

Dell XPS8000: ($1018)

CPU: I-7 2.8GHZ (SUPERIOR ) RANK 12= http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.p

The Mac Mini since it has no monitor, keyboard, mouse, very skimpy on options and setup and is not the best deal... The IMac is better price than the Mac Mini.
