Power supply boxes ( I suppose they are called) for computer...?

Can someont tell me if they are interchangeable between computers?

And if so, how difficult of a prosess is it to change one?

Both computers are pentium 3, but One is more powerful than the one I am using, and I need a boost for mine.

The computer I'm taking it from has other issues, but the power box seem to be fine.

Ok, if you've had your laughs, anyone want to try and answer this, in terms I might get a bit of?Power supply boxes ( I suppose they are called) for computer...?
Yes, power supply is what you call the %26quot;box%26quot;. They are highly interchangeable between computers. As far as difficulty, I think they're the worst thing short of (sometimes maybe even in front of) a CPU to change. There's just one heck of a lot of little cables and its a nuisance to figure out where they all go. I would recommend that you get someone certified to do it.

If your warranty's expired (you'll void it if you aren't certified and go into the case) and you try to do it yourself on limited knowledge, you may not find it to be difficult, but if you end up with some little kink, it'll be difficult for you to trace down what you did wrong.

1) Essentially, you'll have to unplug both power supplies from AC (the wall outlet).

2) Open the case and unplug both power supplies from everything they are connected to inside the case - they will have cables linking up to almost every other piece of hardware in your case.

3) Unscrew both power supplies from the case. You can now remove the organ.

4) Swap the power supplies and do the opposite of 3, 2, then 1.

Hitches:

The plugs are usually keyed so that you physically cannot insert them backward or anything. You can fry components if you still manage to hook things up incorrectly. And between the two different motherboards, you might not hook the same cables in the same places. If you do not make a good note of where you unpugged from, it might be difficult for you to figure out what to plug back in and where to plug it. Having the plans to your motherboards wouldn't hurt you. You can find those online if you don't have them.Power supply boxes ( I suppose they are called) for computer...?
Every computer has different power needs depending on what hardware you have installed. For the most part, power supplies for the two P3 machines you described can likely be interchangable. Do you know the rating (watts) for each? If a power supply is failing, the best bet is to buy a new one. They are not terribly expensive.Power supply boxes ( I suppose they are called) for computer...?
they have to be the same size and have the same screw openings in order for you to attach it. you further have to make sure the one you are putting in has enough power for the machine you're putting it into - check the watts - if the one you are taking out is 300watts you want the replacement to be at least that.

as far as difficulty, i don't think it's difficult if you take your time and pay attention to what you disconnect while taking out the old one. then make sure you reconnect all those same things when connecting the new one.Power supply boxes ( I suppose they are called) for computer...?
If they are both ATX power supplies. Takes 4 screws and some careful unplugging and re-plugging of connectors. About it.Power supply boxes ( I suppose they are called) for computer...?
If the power consumption (wattage) of both pc's are the same, you can interchange the power supply. Check the wattage rating printed on the Sticker or Metal Plate behind the pc.

Difficulty:

If you've done some disk drive/hard drive installation or swaps, then you probably have the basic knowledge to do this.

Otherwise, ask someone from a computer shop to do it for you.

You'll save time and avoid doing some serious installation errors.Power supply boxes ( I suppose they are called) for computer...?
They are indeed called power supplies, or sometimes PSUs. They're not *entirely* universal, but they are to a good extent. Some will have sata connectors, some wont. Some will have a 20 pin connector for the motherboard, some will have 24, some both. With computers as similar as those you're talking about, odds are good that one will work in the other, yes. Essentially as long the connectors fit, you're good. If something's different you'll know it right away, because it wont fit.Power supply boxes ( I suppose they are called) for computer...?
yes, they are interchangable provided the cabinet you are using are same.just remove safely all the connectors from motherboard.then open all screws.fit the power supply unit properly.then, make the connections again.it is as simple as that.
