How to swap hard drives between 2 computers (Both are XPs)?

One computer, a Compaq, isn't able to turn on. I don't know why this is, but I guess power isn't able to get to it. My other computer, an HP, is able to turn on, but after I completely wiped the hard drive, I can only get past the first few menus, then the screen goes blank. I have left it on for several days like this but nothing's changed.

The power supply is probably broken in 1, and the hard drive is messed up in the other.

Does anyone have any links or ways to swap the hard drives from the Compaq to the HP?

I thought about swapping the graphics cards, but the non-working one is using an AGP slot and the working one is using a PCI slot and has no AGP slot.

I'm only 15, so basic instructions would be a lot better. How to swap hard drives between 2 computers (Both are XPs)?
There is one thing you forgot to clarify: is your Hard Drive and IDE or SATA type? IDE are the ones with large/broad data connectors that use a 4-pin Molex cable from you Power Supply, and SATA HDD are those that have those much smaller flat data-connectors and power

connectors.

Anyways, I have included these 2 videos below to show you how to install the HDD on your PC.

For the SATA HDD, you just have to make sure that your the data cable for the SATA HDD that will be your primary drive (to boot windows) is connected to the lowest numbered SATA port on your motherboard (e.g. SATA 0).

If your HDD is IDE, then, as mentioned in the video, you have to place the jumper on MASTER to enable that drive to be your primary boot drive to boot to Windows XP.

If one of the drives is SATA and the other IDE, always select SLAVE on the IDE drive. Your BIOS and Windows will autodetect the SATA HDD as the primary.

When you swap hard drives you will have to reinstall the XP operating system. XP can detect if the computer has a different hard drive.
