Did I blow out my computer power supply ??

looks bad here... turned on my computer and heard a loud CRACK like a spark! Investigated and some water had leaked onto/into the computer. Bad... Dried it out and now no response.

Maybe I just blew the power supply (I hope!) and other parts are okay, but here's how I made things worse... I already started checking connections inside and now I'm not sure where to plug in all those little wires if I try to put in a new power supply. Where can I find a guide to this? Do power supplies have a fuse I can change to see if that fixes it? And lastly, it is possible my 110-220 switch got switched, so which do I set it to?

I'd appreciate answers to any part of this question or if anyone can point me toward good online tutorials for fixing this! (googling didn't find what i'm looking for)Did I blow out my computer power supply ??
well if the power supply is gone, you may have to replace it , did the water only get into the power supply , or all over inside the computer case ?? some power supplys have a fuse that can be replaced , but more often its time to buy a new one , as for the plug ins, they are pretty straight forward to plug into the componants, just draw a diagram , of where everything goes too .. like cd roms, and dvd roms , have a 4 prong plug that will only go in one way into the device, so its fail safe , this also goes for hard drives as well . if you have a floppy drive that takes a littler 4 prong plug , that will also go in one way with tabs(mostly white ones) go with tabs bottom side down (tabs on bottom) . the plugs that go into your mother board are also one way plugs , and fit only one way ... i would count the number of used plugs comming out of the back of the power supply , and make sure that you get a replacement that has the same amount of plug ins as you need... also i would get one that is a little bigger wattage wise to keep the computers power supply cooler, and additional power to run more add-ons if you need too ...make sure that you take the old supply with you to the store , and ask for a slightly bigger (wattage wise) power supply.Did I blow out my computer power supply ??

probably one or more components got fried ... and if ur in the states put the switch to 110 ...Did I blow out my computer power supply ??
Hi, same thing happened to me a few months ago, definately sounds like your PSU, do not turn your computer back on as there is a risk of damaging other components.

As far as fuses, i dont think their is any in the PSU you need to buy a new one, and the 110 or 220 depends on your power source most will be 110.

Its pretty easy to hook up a new PSU, one thing you might check is if your mobo has a 20 pin or 24 pin connector. Since it blew I would advise getting a higher wattage on your new one

Good luckDid I blow out my computer power supply ??
OK a power supply is very easy to change. There should be one big plug which goes into an obvious spot on the motherboard. On newer computers , There is an addition square plug , that powers the CPU. The rest of the plugs are for the hardware like the DVD/CD drives, hard drive(s) and floppy, the smallest plug. It does not really matter which goes where , they're all the same exact voltage.Did I blow out my computer power supply ??
