My brother just put in a new power supply and videocard in his desktop computer. now his sound doesnt work?

so he just put them in and he did it properly but now the sound on his computer just doesnt work. like you can hear it but you can't change the volume or anything. its a dell computer windows xp.

First try checking sound in Device Manager. If the new videocard has HDMI, sound for HDMI may have been enabled thus the controls are on the HDMI related software.



Try disabling sound to HDMI then updating the sound driver. OR do a system restore to the date before installing new graphics card. Then install just the graphics driver but not the HDMI related software.
